Baekbeom's Name Remains as Light

Made for the 150th anniversary of the birth of Kim Gu, known as Baekbeom, who wanted to change the world through culture, this piece lets an audience live his life as a single story. It opens with a book, and the characters are made to look like paper dolls in a pop up book, so that his mischievous childhood, the doubts of his youth and the hard years of the independence movement arrive in the voice of someone reading aloud, without the distance a great man usually carries. At the end the book closes and the boy turns out to have been Baekbeom Kim Gu himself. The power of a high culture that he longed for 150 years ago is still reaching us.
